On July 18th Mothers Matter headquarters was transformed into a delightful clothing boutique with tables of colorful handbags and eye-catching jewelry accessories, and some clothing selections in the front room; two other rooms were converted into changing rooms with a chair and full-length mirror in each in addition to our Suited for Work clothing showroom.
Women from a local women’s shelter and the Center for People in Transition at Rowan College of SJ, our partners for this event, had a wonderful time trying on outfits – finding accessories, shoes and handbags and enjoying a truly special shopping spree.
As Crystal Noboa, Center for People in Transition Director described it “ As a Social Worker I’ve witnessed the shame, guilt and sadness in people’s eyes when they have to utilize a “Clothing Closet”. For once, I can say that I felt excited to be part of a “Clothing Closet”/ event that brought feelings of happiness and joy to our clients. It truly felt like a shopping spree and Wow, how awesome is that!!”
The Lauren Rose Albert Foundation Suited for Work Initiative provides new and/or “gently-used” career clothing for that special job interview or to replenish or replace day-to-day apparel needs. The Suited for Work clothing boutique at Mothers Matter headquarters offers women the opportunity to select their outfits with dignity and pride. It is open by appointment only.
We accept donations of women’s career clothing based on size needs and space availability. Clothing must be on hangers or folded in a box/carton. We cannot accept donations in trash bags.
