Lauren’s Legacy Endowed Scholarship Fund

For more than 25 years, the Lauren Rose Albert Foundation has been a source of strength for women navigating life’s most difficult moments. Rooted in Lauren Rose Albert’s unwavering compassion, that mission continues to grow through Lauren’s Legacy Endowed Scholarship Fund—ensuring her spirit of helping others endures for generations.

Established at Rutgers University–Camden School of Nursing, Rowan University Salva School of Nursing and Rowan College of South Jersey, these scholarships open doors for nontraditional nursing students who have overcome significant obstacles. Many are balancing rigorous coursework with jobs, families, and the financial pressures of daily life—yet remain deeply committed to building careers in healthcare and giving back to their communities.

Learn more about some of the remarkable women behind these stories—and the legacy that is helping them succeed.

Please join us in congratulating the Lauren Rose Albert Foundation’s 2025/26 Lauren’s Legacy Scholarship Recipients Neselle and Tabitha.

Together, Tabitha and Neselle represent different paths—but a shared determination. Their stories are not defined solely by the obstacles they have faced, but by their commitment to move forward, to care for others, and to create better futures for their families.

They are exactly the women these scholarships were created to support—and exactly why this work matters.

TABITHA

After nearly a decade as a hairstylist, Tabitha made the difficult decision to return to school and pursue a career in nursing. Balancing an hour-long commute and the birth of her first child, she earned her associate degree through the Lourdes Nursing Program.

Determined to keep moving forward, Tabitha continued her education at Rowan University Salva School of Nursing, working full-time as an Emergency Room nurse—a role she has come to love—while raising her young son.

Reflecting on her journey, Tabitha shares:
“Walking away from a ten-year career to go back to school was really scary and full of challenges. But I’ve always believed that going the extra step to make things work helps me overcome obstacles. Being blessed with this scholarship to help cover tuition, textbooks, and essential materials ensures that I can achieve my degree and my goals.”

Tabitha’s story is one of determination—of choosing to move forward despite the weight of competing responsibilities. It reflects the reality for so many women striving to build a better future for themselves and their families.

But for others, the path forward is shaped not only by challenge, but by profound loss.

NESELLE

Neselle graduated from Stockton University in 2019 with a degree in health sciences and was considering becoming a neurosurgeon.

Her life changed profoundly in 2021 while pregnant with her first child, when her husband—a U.S. Marine who had served in Afghanistan and struggled with PTSD—took his own life. In the face of unimaginable loss, Neselle chose to move forward with purpose. She enrolled in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at Rutgers University-Camden School of Nursing with the goal of becoming a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner focused on supporting veterans.

Neselle reflects:
“It truly is a blessing and an honor to receive a scholarship that supports mothers making sacrifices for their families. This scholarship has made me feel ‘seen’ in ways I never thought possible. As a widowed parent, my responsibilities feel endless, but with this support, I feel a sense of relief I had only prayed for as I continue my educational journey.”

About Our Inspiration

Lauren Rose Albert

Lauren Rose grew up in Woodmere, New York and Cherry Hill, New Jersey with her parents, Susan and Stuart, and her younger sisters Jackie, Amy and Elizabeth. She was the wife of Dr. Todd Albert and the mother of Stuart, Elliot and Emily. On February 18, 1999 Lauren was a passenger in a vehicle that tumbled down a mountainside in Morocco, killing her. She was only 40. Lauren was truly, a ray of sunshine. Full of laughter, love and light, Lauren’s smile would warm and comfort all who were touched by her radiance, her gentleness and her compassion.

About Our Founder

Susan Rose

On February 18, 1999, Susan Rose got the phone call every parent fears. The oldest of her four daughters, 40-year-old Lauren, had been killed in a car accident while vacationing in Morocco, leaving behind her husband and three children. Mourning the loss immobilized Rose and forced her to retire from her job as a state employee. She calls what happened next “a wonderful effort by family and friends to help me work through my grief.” Given Lauren’s penchant for helping others, they suggested Rose start a charity in Lauren’s name.
