Scholarship Program
What is the Scholarship Program? Grants for single, income-eligible head of household mothers are provided to qualified applicants at participating colleges to offset the cost of textbooks. Since the program’s inception in 2003, recipients have benefitted from more than 300 scholarships totaling over $100,000.
Why is this needed? The cost of college textbooks averages $900 per student per year. This is a significant burden on single, working-poor, mothers who work, maintain a household and struggle to make ends meet.
How are the grants made? Qualified students at participating colleges are eligible to receive grants averaging $250 a semester for textbooks or course related materials. Students apply through the colleges and scholarships are disbursed through accounts established for book purchases in the college bookstores.
Who receives LRAF Scholarships? Scholarships are awarded to income-eligible single, head-of-household parents (must be custodial parent) attending a participating college.
Where is the Scholarship Program in place? Current participating colleges include: Burlington, Camden, Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem County Colleges and Rowan University.
How do I apply for this Scholarship? If you are a student attending one of the above colleges and meet the application criteria, contact the relevant office to apply.
