Our Vision is for a Safer World
Road safety in this country and internationally is a prime concern. The road accident in Morocco
in which Lauren was killed was caused by unsafe driving conditions and substandard safety
regulations.
The Foundation’s efforts in this country are directed towards low-income women; single mothers,
welfare-to-work women, older women living alone, women who have cars but do not have the finances
or expertise to safely maintain them.
The Foundation plans to:
- Offer a basic car maintenance program with free or low cost car clinics.
- Distribute a "SafetyNet" card detailing car maintenance tips, emergency repair information and personal safety tips for women.
- Distribute a kit with emergency items such as a medical kit, reflecting triangles, jumper cables, tire gauges.
- Develop a "Safe Haven" program to offer assistance to women drivers.
The Foundation is working with the Association for Safe International Road Travel (ASIRT) to
promote safe international road travel. Road accidents are the leading cause of death and serious
injury for healthy Americans traveling abroad. The Foundation is dedicated to promoting road
safety through:
- Creating a greater awareness of the risk and precautions against the hazards and unsafe road conditions encountered in other countries.
- Establishing uniform worldwide standards for transport with specific reference to mandatory seat belt installation in all vehicles.
- Distributing a Safe Travel Card with information about routine car safety, maintenance and repairs for students living abroad.
