What is the Emergency Grant Assistance Program? This new program provides emergency grants in the form of goods, services or cash to assist mothers and their families with a demonstrated, urgent need that cannot be met through any government or agency help.
Why is this needed? With the recent economic downturn, women’s unmet needs are more pressing than ever. Mothers who were just barely getting by now find themselves in crisis -- without money to pay for basic needs such as clothing and food, gas for their cars, utilities or medical bills. Government or agency help is either not available or not timely.
For example, a grant was awarded to offset the medical bills of a recent widow faced with the challenges of her husband's suicide, the loss of her job within weeks of her husband's death, raising a 15 year-old on her own, and attending school while undergoing extensive and costly testing to determine if she has lung cancer.
Who receives assistance? The LRAF partners with organizations that then submit applications on behalf of their clients.
Applications for assistance must be submitted through a participating agency. The LRAF does not accept applications for assistance from individuals.
